Evan Buie, Global Affairs Canada (Moderator)
Evan Buie is a Trade Commissioner with Global Affairs Canada in the Regional Office for Alberta and the Northwest Territories. In his current role, Evan works with agtech and agriculture companies to help them succeed in foreign marketplaces. Evan’s previous experience includes working in various roles for the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture’s Export Development team, CPG sales, and teaching English in Japan. Evan holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and graduated top of his class with an MBA in International Business Management & Innovation from the Barcelona Executive Business School.
Karen Schuett, Livestock Water Recycling
As CEO of Livestock Water Recycling, the global leader of digitized manure treatment technology, Karen oversees the integration between LWR’s overall corporate strategy and the focus on innovation. Karen has brought her message of lagoon-free protein production to the international market as she works with her team to digitize wastewater, recycle clean water, and create a waste-to-worth value proposition for global food producers. Karen was named one of the six most influential women in Canadian Agriculture for her vision of sustainable protein production. Karen was also selected to join the inaugural Google for Startups Accelerator for Women Founders, and was named as one of Canada’s Clean 50 in 2020.
LWR was named one of the Top Agtech Companies by Successful Farming magazine and was selected for the global FoodTech 500 as the highest ranking Canadian ag/foodtech company, claiming the 31st spot globally. In 2023, LWR was validated by VERRA to issue methane avoidance credits through the LWR First Wave system deployment. In 2024 that validation project was named one of Canada’s top 25 Clean Projects. In late 2023 LWR won the Global Impact Award Water Category for their impact on the economy and environment of the ag industry.
Brad Fournier, Pure Life Carbon
Brad Fournier is the Director of Business Development with Pure Life Carbon helping to provide the world with the most advanced carbon-based agriculture products. Brad has a long history working in the agriculture sector and has gained significant expertise as a result of holding various senior management positions with Invest Alberta, Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency, and the Alberta Agricultural Research Institute. Brad has a BSc in Animal Science and a MSc in Livestock Molecular Genetics from the University of Saskatchewan. He also completed his Executive MBA in Business from Athabasca University. Brad is passionate about sustainable agriculture and food and hopes to build a future that the next generation can flourish in.
